In a high-voltage move, Finnish tech powerhouse Wärtsilä has sealed the deal for a 12-year extension on its Operation & Maintenance (O&M) agreement with Sindh Nooriabad Power Company (SNPC), a game-changing independent power producer (IPP) in Pakistan. The pact covers the SNPC 1 and 2 power plants in Sindh, showcasing a leap forward in sustainable energy solutions.
Fueled by innovation, these plants boast five Wärtsilä 34SG gas engines and a steam turbine generator for engine heat recovery, churning out an impressive 100 MW combined. The agility of the Wärtsilä 34SG engine’s rapid start-up time ensures a lightning-fast response to any grid hiccups.
As the pioneer IPP in Pakistan’s public-private partnership landscape, SNPC stands out with a 49% government shareholding and 51% held by private investor Technomen Kinetics (Pvt) Ltd. The Power Purchasing Agreement spans 25 years, with 19 years left on the clock, showcasing the robustness of this enduring collaboration.
What sets these power plants apart is their reliance on locally sourced gas, delivering a double win – reducing fuel costs and boosting sustainability. SNPC has sung praises for Wärtsilä’s expertise, citing trouble-free and cost-effective performance, underscoring the value brought to their operations.
This extended partnership signifies more than just a contract renewal; it’s a commitment to a future where Wärtsilä’s cutting-edge technology and SNPC’s pioneering spirit join forces to illuminate Pakistan’s path towards a sustainable, efficient energy landscape. The stage is set, and Wärtsilä is at the helm, powering up Pakistan’s tomorrow.
